GPhC Standards app closure

The regulatory body for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacies in Great Britain will be discontinuing their ‘GPhC Standards App’ on 20th March 2022.

The role of the GPhC is to protect the public and give them assurance that they will receive effective and safe care when using pharmacy services. The regulatory body also works to improve standards of care and sets the standards for pharmacy professionals and pharmacies to remain on its register.

The GPhC sets pharmacy standards in four areas,

  • Standards for pharmacy professionals
  • Standards for registered pharmacies
  • Standards for the initial education and training for pharmacists
  • Standards for the initial education and training for pharmacy technicians

These set standards were put in place by The Pharmacy Order in 2010 and this makes sure that standards in Great Britain are relevant and up to date. ‘Standards’ are outcome-focused and therefore do not set out in detail what pharmacy owners and pharmacy professionals need to do to make sure that patients and service users receive safe and effective care.

The ‘Standards’ App

Since the GPhC Standards app was first introduced in 2017 they have improved the current website to make it easier to view and download documents, including standards and guidance, on mobile phones and tablets.

The GPhC is also investing in a new website which will go live later this year, to further improve the user experience.  They have therefore decided not to continue to offer the GPhC Standards app, after a review of user numbers and ongoing running costs.

You will still be able to access the standards and guidance on the GPhC website:
