Expanding the Business Model for an Independent Pharmacy

An innovative independent pharmacy won a competition run by a national pharmacy magazine, the prize for which was a one day free consultancy visit from Pharmacy Consulting Ltd (PCL), who at the time wrote regular articles for the magazine concerned on the subject of pharmacy business development.

The Pharmacy Consulting Solution

PCL visited the customers in their original pharmacy in London, and looked with them at the initial business model that they had developed. PCL then suggested ways that the model could be further developed and rolled out over time to additional pharmacies.

The customer benefits

The customer decided to follow up some of the ideas and suggestions put forwards by PCL. Over time they developed an innovative shared ownership model and thereby acquired a number of additional pharmacies. As a small group now they have gone on to develop something of a reputation for innovative service provision attuned to local customer needs, which has even helped them win competitive bids for LPS contracts in their region.

The senior consultant from Pharmacy Consulting was briefed upon our requirement to rapidly gain quite a detailed understanding of the state of development of the community pharmacy market in two European countries.

The work was completed on time and to budget and fully met our expectations. The consultant also helpfully kept us in the picture as to how things were progressing whilst the work was in progress and in the case of one country even arranged and hosted a visit for one of our team to visit a typical busy pharmacy in that country where the owner/pharmacists spoke English.
